So...
Immigration seems to be a hot topic recently that has a lot of people with fire under their trousers. "Keep em' out!" seems to be the big battle-cry. America is in quite the pickle over the whole issue. So let's step back to reality for a moment.
1. America doesn't belong to Americans. America belongs to The Lord. He is gracious enough to let us stay here.
2. We are all children of The Lord, and are equally precious in his sight.
So in reality, we're a lot like beggars that were given a really nice cardboard box, and now we're telling all the other beggars that they can't come in, even though there's plenty of room. (Ever been to Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Nevada, Kansas, Oklahoma, or Iowa...?)
So if you can drift peacefully off to sleep humming "I'm Trying to be Like Jesus" knowing men with guns get paid to watch the borders and keep others of God's Children out who are trying to make a better life for themselves, be my guest.

SO... I'm going to first start by stating that you are not an idiot... just your comment was idiotic. And this is why:
ReplyDelete1) Although the cardboard box analogy sounds fuzzy, it's more complicated than that because there's more to this nation than large tracts of land. There is an established system of cultural, social, economic, and religious values that constitute the America we all love. Those values establish the bulk of what we call the "American Way". And although this "cardboard box" is large enough geographically; socially, economical, culturally, and religiously the nation is not big enough to soak up the influx. Proof of this is SEVERE budget deficits border states (i.e. CA, AZ, FL) are going through largely due to disproportionate amounts of illegal immigrants.
2) Most of the problems with Mexico stem from their own political problems. Ether 8:22 (21-25) teaches plainly what happens to nations that do not take a serious and hard line against bands of robbers (Mexican drug cartels). Opening boarders to immigrants also opens boarders to quite literally the Gadianton robbers. Ciadad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, has seen over 5000 murders in the last 2 years... and it's not just the cartels killing each other. They kidnap and hold for ransom men, women, and children. Rumors have it that there are insurance companies that have started selling ransom insurance in these areas. We do NOT need that kind of ilk spewing over the boarder.
3) Immigration supporters say that Mexicans are only taking the jobs Americans don't want. To an extent that's the case, however they are jobs that Americans would take--especially when unemployment continues to flirt around the 10% rate for the last 12 months, I'm sure there wouldn't be a shortage of people wiling to take a lower paying job if it was an option.
4) Immigration supporters would also say that if we gave all these people citizen status, we could then tax them and they could pay their share of the tax base. However, that's also a myth because of the culture they are used to living in. Most latin-American nations have VERY weak income tax systems, national banking systems, and tax laws. Immigrants from non-taxing systems who do not have a qualm breaking federal law to come, will not have any qualms evading taxes that would suddenly come upon them.
5) Gangs, drugs, domestic violence, violent crime, teen pregnancy, low education goals, poverty, strain on schools and health-care systems, and the list goes on. All SIGNIFICANTLY higher in high latino populations.
6) Ever been to Ogden? West Valley? Kearns? South side of Logan? 'nuf said.
There is a solution and it involves a national effort to identify those who hire illegals and basically fine them into extinction. The social security office needs to get involved because they know who's numbers have been bought and sold on the streets of SLC for $50 and used by illegals to gain fake I.D. Illegals who are caught should be placed into mandatory 3-5 year public servitude where they do public works and beautification projects while having English language remediation. After their service, they are granted probationary citizenship for another 3-5 years. Any felonies during any of those years, you are stamped and deported. And lastly, border control... and I mean REAL border control. There are legal and viable means to come into this country. Obey the law and we'd love to have you.
