For those of you who don't know....I am not a good cook. It is very intimidating for me. And whenever I make something with chicken, I get so disgusted I can't eat the final product. Well, yesterday, I put some chicken in the crock pot and for the first time, I COULD EAT IT! And it was tasty. Maybe this is a start to something new...

A good find

As mentioned in the previous post, I scoured the Black Friday ads on Thanksgiving. I don't know about you, but I was NOT impressed this year. There just wasn't very many good deals! However, at Walmart there was a Kodak camera for $60 that I was interested in.
I had to work from 8-5 that day so after I got off work, we went to Walmart "just to see" about the camera. It turned out Walmart sold out of those cameras, but...there were some for sale that were last years models for $40. SOLD! We have a new camera! It's never been opened and it's the same brand and model as the camera we were interested in buying. We're pretty excited about it and you should be too, cuz now there will be more pics on this blog. Wahoo!

A post of Thanks

Andy and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It started on Sunday when we met with his brothers and their families and shared dinner with them. I'm grateful most of his family is so close so we can see them often and we wish we are able to see those who live far away more often.
On Wednesday I had to work 10 to 7 and I was getting pretty anxious towards the end of my shift because the roads were still so bad and icey from the recent storm. I'm grateful my manager let me go early so I could surprise my family by being home earlier than expected and that we were able to have a safe drive despite the roads.
We had such a wonderful Thanksgiving day with my family. It consisted of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, reading the Black Friday ads, football, food, and family. Normally, my family has Thanksgiving with my Aunt's family around the corner from us, but this year we didn't because she was recovering from surgery to get her cancer removed. I'm so grateful it went well and that she is recovering rapidly. I'm grateful my Uncle still came over and some of my cousins to spend time with them. I'm grateful my grandparents recently moved to Utah after living in California for so many years. It's wonderful to spend so much time with them and I love listening to my Grandpa tell stories.
I'm thankful for the fun times I had with my family. We got my mom and step-dad to play hide-n-go-seek in our house which was super fun. No one was able to find me behind my wedding dress in my closet. Classic.
I'm thankful for Andy and for his role of being the big brother my sisters never had. He took us night sledding when it was 10 degrees outside and we had a blast. Well....they had a blast. I was freezing and hurt my leg the first time I went down which resulted in a pretty amazing bruise.
I have so many things to be thankful for. Sometimes I focus on the negative and have a pity party for myself. Truth be told...I think I am very blessed. I have a husband who adores me, wonderful family who support me, and the truth and light of the gospel which brings me peace. (amongst many other blessings) I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well!

I went to the doctor this morning after a week of consistent headaches and little bumps growing on my forehead. Turns out...I have shingles. I can't work, which means I won't be making money, which really stresses me out. I pray that I can get better soon, so I can go back to work. If you can, please keep me in your prayers. A Fall Update

October was a fun month for us. We did a lot of fun things...drives through the canyons, the Pumpkin Walk (a Logan tradition), and of course Halloween. So, here's some pics to prove it. ha.

As a heads up, never play "Do you love your neighbor" with Andy. He gets competitive. Ha. We had a fun time.

Aggie football

I'm not a huge football fan, but I do love my Aggies. And it was so wonderful to see my beloved Aggies finally beat BYU! We haven't beaten BYU in football since 1993 and what a way to win. We CREAMED BYU...a little taste of humble pie perhaps? Ha. Rushing the field at the end was the cherry on top. What a super night! Legend-wait for it-dary!

Andy's brother, Jason, came over for a bit tonight and they decided to play a video game. I was in the shower when they were playing, but even with the sound of the water, I could hear them SQUEALING with delight. The object of the game was to make the other person crash their motorcycle, as you can tell from the pic. Ha. It reminded me of 2 kids in a candy store.

My Bucket List

Since I spoke of my bucket list in the last post, I thought to share it. I made this list when I was bored at work 2 years ago and since I made it, I have accomplished 3 things...paintballing (but you already knew that ha), get married in the temple (which I was able to do almost a year ago...our anniversary is in 3 days!), and graduate from college (which I did in December of 08).
In no particular order:

• I would love to be able to adopt a child from a different country. I worked in orphanages in Ecuador and I saw how awful the system is there and I would love to be able to help at least one child feel loved and to be part of a family.
  
• I want to go everywhere in Europe. Both my mom and my step-dad traveled all over Europe when they were single and I want to follow in their footsteps...even though I'm not single anymore :)
• I want to go on a road trip across the United States
  
• I also want to go camping in all the National Parks
• I want to write my life history...I'm not super awesome at keeping a journal, so I think this could be a challenge for me.
• I want to learn about my ancestors and grandparents and make some sort of historical journal with the info I gather.
• I want to learn Spanish and French
• I want to design a house and possibly help build it. My dad built the house I grew up in, so I'm intrigued to do that as well.
  
• I want to be an amazing cook...which I don't think will ever happen. ha
• I want to go to Disney World
• I want to meet a president
• I want to learn how to scuba dive
• I want to go to Hawaii and swim with sharks
• I want to learn how to quilt really well
• I also want to live on the East Coast. I love it there.

So that's the list. And I'm sticking to it :)

Goals

I love it when I can cross something off my bucket list. Yesterday, I was able to do that by going PAINTBALLING! I've wanted to do this ever since I saw the movie, "10 Things I Hate About You", but I've also been a little nervous....cuz you can get hurt. And I've also never had any friends who have wanted to go...until I married Andy. He loves to go and he organized an outing yesterday and we had so much fun! I wish I got a pic of us in our gear, but I'm not really a picture person, so just use your imagination. Ha. We played a team elimination game and we also played Capture the Flag. By the end of the day, I was comfortable shooting and I didn't want to stop. We came through fairly unscathed with my worst welt is on my arm and Andy's on his thigh. If you ever want to come with us, let us know. We would love to go again!

lemonade vs lemons

So, I called in sick today at work. I wasn't lying. I spent all night last night in misery which resulted in me going to Instacare today. But, good news! The doc diagnosed me right away and gave me an antibiotic that should clear up the infection. While this whole episode hasn't been fun at all, there are a lot of reasons to be grateful. Andy and I have just barely (last week) gotten health insurance. I have been praying all summer that we would be healthy so we wouldn't have to go to the doctor. And lo and behold the same week we got insurance, I had to go to the doc. Instead of paying hundreds of dollars, I had to pay a $20 co-pay. What a blessing. Another reason for my gratitude is my husband, Andy. He has been so understanding and helpful to me. I love him so much. Last night, I cried uncontrollably for really no reason and he listened to me and made me feel better. And then, when I couldn't sleep last night, I woke him up...twice... complaining and he listened again and made me feel better. What a good guy. He's such a blessing to me. So here's to making lemonade out of lemons.

Food that's practically free!

Papa Murphy's is having a really good deal today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. It's their customer appreciation days and a large Pepperoni pizza is only $3.99. What? Yes, it's true. I think pizza will be on the menu the next couple of days. Ha. Just Fyi...

Day 8

On Thursday, we didn't really have any plans, so we decided to drive around the cities...St Paul and Minneapolis. We drove past the football stadium...
and we toured a cathedral and a basilica. I didn't take any pics cuz I was kinda disappointed with them. After that, we went to the St Paul temple and it was such a relief to be there after touring the gaudy and depressing cathedrals. Here's some pics of us at the temple.
As we were driving around we saw this was playing...
Unfortunately we didn't win the lottery(before every show you can enter your name into a cauldron and if they draw your name you can buy tickets for $25), so we didn't get to go. But that's ok. We ended up going to Perkins (Andy's fav restaurant) with some more high school friends.

Day 7

Wednesday was the day Andy couldn't wait for...Valley Fair! Valley Fair is an amusement park in MN. I spent the whole day comparing it to Lagoon(the amusement park in UT) and I have to say, Valley Fair had WAY BETTER rides. Lagoon has a better water park though. If you ever get a chance to go, here are the rides I HIGHLY recommend.

• The Xtreme Swing. This was the all time scariest ride for me. It didn't seem to bad waiting in line, but once I was actually on it, I couldn't even open my eyes. It's a swing that holds like 10 people on each side and it swings you super high up in the air with your feet dangling.
• Steel Venom. While I was waiting in line for this ride I was begging Andy not to make me go on it, but I'm glad I did. It turned out to be my favorite. This ride is U-shaped and you go at least 50 mph while on it. It's another feet dangler and one side of the U is twisted so you turn as you go up it. The other side is straight but you dangle in the air for a second or so while you're at the top. So scary but so fun.
• Andy's favorite is a roller coaster called Wild Thing. It used to have the highest hill in the world, but I guess Japan just built one that is taller. Regardless it is so scary and so fun. And it's a long coaster so you feel that the wait in line is ok. We went on that one 3 times.
  
• My other fav was in the water park. It's called Panic Falls. It's a 4 person tube with no handles and there were times I thought I would fall off the edge. It was so scary cuz there wasn't anything to hold onto, but so fun. However we waited in line for this for over an hour. boo

We had such a fun day. Exhausting, but so fun. We ended the day with eating at Taco Johns. Andy had to go there at least once while we were there. ha

Day 6

On Tuesday we ventured into the cities so we could go to the Mall of America! This is what I saw when I first walked in...
When we first got there, a guy from a kiosk basically forced me to to go to the kiosk so he could demonstrate his straightner on my hair. It was "all ceramic and was incapable of burning the hair" Yeah, whatever...my hair burned and I was mad. No worries we didn't buy it. Ha. Andy wanted us to walk every floor on each side so I could experience "it all". It took us practically all day. We went to an area called Underwater Adventures where you walk through this tunnel and all around you are sharks, sting rays, huge fish, etc. It was so neat. Maybe not worth the $18 ticket per person, but I'm still glad we went. Here's us in the rainforest exhibit part
In the Mall of America there isn't just stores. There's the Underwater Adventures, Legoland, and an amusement park, called Nickalodeon Universe. Here's some pics of Legoland from above

To experience it all we had to go on a ride and we chose the coolest and scariest one...The Last Airbender. I wish I got a pic. It was a U-shaped ride and there was a surfboard that had 2 pods with 6 seats on them and you would go up and down while each pod was spinning. It was pretty fun, but once again, not worth the $13 ticket price. Geez.
That night we had dinner with another friend of Andy's and her family. It was fantastic.
End day 6

Day 5

My day started out on a farm. We went to visit Terry and Kathy, the couple Andy lived with in high school. They have a huge property where they grow soybeans, one of the two major crops grown in MN. (The other is corn) Terry took us on a tour of the farm and we decided the history channel show "American Pickers" would have a hay day there. Scattered along the property are at least 10 cars and there are 2 sheds full of stuff. I wanted to get the full experience of being a farmer so Terry decided to take some of his harvested soybeans from last year to the co-op, which is where a farmer takes his crop to get weighed and stored and then gets paid for the product. To get the beans out of the silo, Terry had this huge pulley system that took the beans from the silo and shook them to get excess crap off and then dumped them into this huge thing attached to the truck. (I have no idea what the proper terms are so bear with me. ha) But here's a pic to kinda show what happens.Then we hauled the truck and this thing above to the co-op. Andy told me I couldn't take pics of that so I didn't. But yeah, it was an experience for me. I have to say though that I enjoyed it. It was really neat to see a snippet of what a farmer goes through. Next, Andy and I got free haircuts from Kathy...what a wonderful women! We couldn't leave without shotgun shooting and Andy kept referring to himself as a "top shot"...once again another reference to the history channel...we're kinda geeks. Ha. He really is good shooter though.
After we left Terry and Kathy's we decided to meet up with a friend of Andy's from high school who just happens to own a family restaurant called King's Wok(I think). It was super tasty and the best part was it was free! What a good friend.
That night we went with Andy's dad and nephew, Jordan, to the Cokado Corn Carnival. Right when we got there we saw a Christian family perform on a stage. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. They were "hallujah-ing" and praising the Lord so emphatically. They even asked by raise of hand who thought they were going to be saved. I thought they would be boo-d off the stage but they were well-recieved. Here's a pic of them...sorry for the quality

End day 5

Sunday=day 4

We started out the day going to church. It was really neat to go to church with a lot of recent converts. We don't get that very often here in Utah. We were able to talk to some and I was so impressed with their testimonies. After church, Andy took me to where his branch used to meet. It was an old house then and now it's an office building of sorts. It was interesting to see cuz I've only ever gone to churches built by the church. Here's the pic...Later that day we went to the Twine Ball exhibit! His hometown houses the largest twine ball i the world made by a man. There's a museum there and a little hut thing that houses the twine ball. This is so big it's even in the travel brochures I read. Ha. Here's our pics....

Those are all the pics from that day, but that night we went to his parent's house and played games. It was fun to spend the night with them and for me, getting to know them better.
End day 4

Our first day in MN

Preface: this was such a fun day!
It started out surprising his parents who didn't know we were coming. I think this was my favorite part of the trip. To see the surprise and joy on their faces was priceless. Especially to see his mom running to us with outstretched arms. Priceless. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics.

That night was another highlight of our trip: the Meeker County Fair. It was so fun. We went to a demolition derby which was SO much fun...We played bingo for a quarter a round and ended up winning the jackpot during the blackout round. Score!

Day Dos

Day two began bright and early. Thanks sun. We drove around Billings for an hour or so trying to find the temple there. A GPS would have been handy, but oh well. We finally found it (thanks Mom) and we able to do a session there. It was so neat for us to see different temples. What a wonderful experience. Here's a pic and don't mind the fact I look like I just woke up, cuz I did. Ha.After that we spent the day driving, driving, driving. We did make a stop at the Bismark, North Dakota temple.
And then we made it to Minnesota! We were so excited!

End day 2

Since it's been months since I last posted, I guess I should share what we've been up to. The biggest event was when we went on a much needed vaca....to Minnesota! We had so much fun and there are tons of pics to share so I decided to split our trip into days. We left Thursday, August 5th and came back late on Saturday, August 15th.
Day one
We left Thursday afternoon and we were so excited to leave on the adventure of our lives! We weren't even sure if we could go due to car problems, but in the nick of time Andy got it all fixed. Wahoo! We drove to Idaho Falls where we made a temple stop. We were able to do sealings at the Idaho Falls temple and I'm so glad we did. What a beautiful place. Here's a pic...



After that we drove to Yellowstone, where we were planning on going camping, but since it was raining, we decided to sleep in the car. Andy decided he wasn't tired yet so we kept driving and ended up in Billings, Montana. And that's where we spent the night...at a rest stop. Ha. End day one.

A Movie Review

Kim's take
Tonight Andy and I saw Prince of Persia. I didn't really know what to expect, but even with my lack of expectations, I was disappointed. So, let me start off by saying that if you're excited to see this movie, don't read this post. It was long, boring, and pointless. Other people thought so in the theatre too...the kid in front of me fell asleep. The only redeeming factor was that Jake Gyllenhall was hot. (It's ok, I already informed Andy). But his stunts, while cool, were completely unrealistic. I feel like it made the movie just that more stupid. Also, apparently the movie was unoriginal. All of Andy's friends said it was from a video game or something...I don't know. Point of the story, I wouldn't waste your time or money. Wait til Redbox.

Andy's take

It was entertaining. Nothing earth shattering. Writers probably played Assassins Creed and watched Lord of the Rings while they were writing. Dialogue was silly. Action was good. Volume was loud. Good one-time watch. And thus it is written.

An update

I know you all love Andy's political rants, but I decided to change it up a little and post about our stay-cation. Andy finished up Spring semester on Friday and has this week off before he starts Summer school. I've had to work most of the time, but we still have done a lot of fun things together. On Saturday, we started planting our garden and I'm really excited to work on it. The weather has been pretty cold lately here in Logan, so we've only been able to plant peas so far. Hopefully soon we'll be able to plant more vegies.
Today, I had the day off from both of my jobs...something that rarely happens. We went fishing this morning. Well, when I say "we" I mean Andy went fishing while I read. It was so nice and peaceful and I loved being outside. I can't wait for warmer weather. Later today we're going to Pocetello to go to Andy's favorite restaurant, Perkins. I've never been there, but he loves it and used to go there all the time when he lived in MN. I'm just excited to go on a drive. We used to do that all the time when we were dating, but we don't really do that anymore. Anyways, we are doing well and are loving life. I hope you all have a fantastic day!
P.S. I've made a goal to read one book a week and because of this, I've read some pretty great books. What are some of your favs? I would love suggestions...

Just a thought....(by Andy)

So...

Immigration seems to be a hot topic recently that has a lot of people with fire under their trousers. "Keep em' out!" seems to be the big battle-cry. America is in quite the pickle over the whole issue. So let's step back to reality for a moment.

1. America doesn't belong to Americans. America belongs to The Lord. He is gracious enough to let us stay here.

2. We are all children of The Lord, and are equally precious in his sight.

So in reality, we're a lot like beggars that were given a really nice cardboard box, and now we're telling all the other beggars that they can't come in, even though there's plenty of room. (Ever been to Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Nevada, Kansas, Oklahoma, or Iowa...?)

So if you can drift peacefully off to sleep humming "I'm Trying to be Like Jesus" knowing men with guns get paid to watch the borders and keep others of God's Children out who are trying to make a better life for themselves, be my guest.

Andy's Take on 3D Movies

Dear Hollywood, STOP IT!

I don't see anything wonderful about paying an extra $2.00 for a migraine. And from what I can tell, nobody even likes it. I haven't met a single person that is like "Oooo Ahhhh, man, this 3D is the most amazing thing ever and we should start promoting all our movies with it!" I mean, seriously, who is in the board meetings saying "Yeah! 3D, let's do it!"? What kind of crack are they smokin' to think that the public really digs 3D? The only reason they probably go for it is because 3D makes more money off the tickets with those blasted glasses, and nobody can find a theater playing the regular movie! Grrr....

Anyway, I had a great semester and the flowers are blooming. Birds chirp happily outside my window every morning, and I can almost not hear the chainsaw of the construction workers chopping down the freaking tree at 7:00 AM IN THE BLOODY MORNING!

Have you ever...

So, tonight Andy and I went on a date. We had a coupon for a BOGO at Jamba Juice and then we went shopping...at DI. In total, we spent $8 dollars total tonight. Have you ever felt like you are so poor financially, but so richly blessed? That's how I feel tonight. We have so much to be grateful for. That's all. Have a wonderful night!

My Birthday!

I turned 24 yesterday and it was such a good day! I love that my birthday is in March...it's such a good month, because it's practically Spring! Both of my jobs were awesome and I didn't have to work. Wahoo! I didn't really have any definite plans for the day other than going out to lunch with my sister-in-law, Kiley. We share the same birthday week, so what better way to celebrate than going to Cafe Sabor? It was so yummy. Andy surprised me after lunch by coming home from work early. He told me he had some news. The good news was that he was taking me to South Jordan to see my family. I was so excited, cuz I haven't seen them for like a month. Way too long. The better news he had for me was that he had a call from a lady who wanted to buy his car...after only a day on the market. It was pretty great news. It didn't pan out, but it was still good to hear. Anyways, I had such a good day yesterday and it seemed to go way too fast. Good days seem to do that. Thanks to those who sent me birthday wishes...I honestly think I have the best friends ever. I hope you all have a fantastic day!

A new job

Yes, it's true. I got another job. I wasn't able to find a job in my major, but I did get a job at Lowes! The best thing about it is that the job includes benefits after 6 months. I still work at Old Navy, so hopefully working 2 jobs won't be a major conflict.

My new favorite thing is going to the library. I read books pretty fast, so I'm always looking for new books to read. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Today I finished a book called Impossible and I also just read Heat Wave which is a book based off my favorite tv show Castle.

Andy is busy with school and work. He's doing great at both. Even though he's super busy, he still spends most his nights with me, which I'm really grateful for. Tonight, he's with the boys playing Poker. I was invited, but...it's not really my thing. Point of the story, we're doing great. We wish we were able to be at the WAC tournament in Reno with Nae and Nicole, but other than that, we are loving life. Have a fantastic day!

It's Saturday night...

... and I'm blogging while Andy is watching a weird Canadian show called "the Red/Green Show". When did we get old and boring? Ha. I'm ready to go to bed and it's 10! I used to be a night-owl...what happened? Anyways, just as an update...I didn't get the job I wanted from the last post. Boo. I've had a couple of other job interviews and the most promising prospect is as a cashier at Lowes. I had an interview there on Friday and no worries..it took over an hour. I've never had an interview that was so long. I should hear back next week. Thanks Megan for the info!

We're in the process of downsizing. We're trying to sell Andy's car. If you want it, let me know. We'll sell it for cheap! It's a 2000 Buick Regal.

My best friend from high school gets home from her mission today. I can't wait to see her!

Job Interview!

So, the title says it all, but I had a job interview today for a job that I would really enjoy! It's at Bear River Head Start and it's a case manager position. I would have 25 case loads of families and I would monthly have home visits with the families to try to help them out in whatever they need. It sounds like a great job and I think I would really enjoy it...plus it has benefits! Keep your fingers crossed!

We moved!

We moved last Saturday to a really cute apartment. It has just enough space for us and the kitchen is huge! We are finally almost done unpacking everything...our closet needs to be organized...but we are so happy to be living here. In case you want to visit, our address is 682 N 500 E. Thanks to those who helped us move, we couldn't have done it without you! (and Kiley especially-you are pretty much amazing!)

We are blessed

Good news! We found an apartment! And a washer and dryer. And a mattress. In one day! We feel so blessed that we will be able to remain in our ward and that the apartment is in such good shape for the fantastic price. I just feel like Heavenly Father is watching out for us, amidst all of our chaos and hardships. We will be moving on Saturday, so this week will be spent packing and cleaning...I'm really excited...ha. No, I am excited to be in a new place that we can call "our own" (even though we don't own it ha). We're excited for this new step and we hope everything works out this week. Keep us in your prayers!

For Janae

Janae told me it's been a long time since I last posted, so here's an update on our lives. We've had a pretty emotional week. Here's the good news: Andy started school again, which makes us so happy. He's really excited to be back and is determined to be an A student. I wish him luck!
The weekend started out amazing. I was finally able to finish watching the series of "Alias". I've been watching it with some friends for almost 2 years and we were finally able to finish the last 2 episodes. What an accomplishment, right? Ha. Then Janae came up and it was so great to see her. She always brightens my day! :)
Now for the bad news: On Saturday, we were told that we had a week to get out of the house we're living in. We are living in a family friend's mother's home(confusing, right?) and they decided to sell it...without telling us. Needless to say, I was/am pretty upset about it. So, the rest of the weekend was spent trying to find a suitable apartment. We looked at 2 places that were pretty much trash. We have one other appointment to see an apt tomorrow and we're praying it will work out...since we only have til Saturday. Geez. So, that's a brief update on our lives. Camera Issues

So, I realize this blog is kinda lacking something...pictures. We bought ourselves a Nikon Coolpix for Christmas and we were both really excited about it. Well, to make this story short, it didn't work properly. We were able to return it, but I still want another camera. I would love to hear feedback on what cameras you have and if you like them. Thanks for your help!

New Year's Fun

So this past New Year's we didn't really have plans. We could have gone to SL, but I had to work on New Year's Eve and the day after New Year's so it would have been a really fast trip. But then some of Andy's friends, who are the night managers at the Anniversary Inn, invited us over for games. We had so much fun with them! We played Sardines in the Inn and it was kinda fun to see the basement, attic, and rooms...places you don't really get to see unless you work there or pay a lot of money. After we did that, we played "I've Never" with a twist cuz we made it into a drinking game. Needless to say we all had to go to the bathroom pretty fast. Ha. It was a fun night and fun to spend with our friends. We're excited to see where this year takes us and especially grateful to be spending it with each other. We wish you the best this year! Go 2010!
